Last Thursday night was big for the 2022 Virginia football team. The Hoos added a win, a conference win at that, and a conference win on the road. It was also the Hoos’ first win in Atlanta since 2008 and just the third this century.

The Hoos now have a three-game winning streak against the Jackets and now have a one-game lead in the all-time series too.

To add to the festivities, there was a debut of a true freshman on the playing field during the game. A season high six saw action in Atlanta as well.

Will Bettridge (Kicker)

It was a game the kicker from Florida would like to forget. He made just 1 of 2 extra points and 1 of 3 field goals. His field goal make was from 28 yards while the misses were from 39 and 29 yards. There appeared to be snap placement issues on many of Bettridge’s kicks against the Yellow Jackets. But in those instances, the kicker still shoulders the majority of the blame in the eyes of fans.

On the season, Bettridge is now 7 of 9 on extra point attempts. He’s also 3 of 5 on field goal attempts.

This was Bettridge’s fourth game played on the season. Playing in another game will remove his ability to take a redshirt this season.

McKale Boley (Offensive Line)

McKale Boley returned to action after a several game absence. He was back in the rotation on the offensive line.

This was Boley’s fourth game played on the season. He will not qualify for redshirt in 2022 if he plays in another game this season.

Stevie Bracey (Linebacker)

It was a homecoming for the Atlanta native and he saw his first extensive playing time from scrimmage in this game. Bracey also played on special teams but it was his presence on the defense that generated excitement.

Against Georgia Tech, Bracey recorded his first career tackle. He finished the game with the one stop.

On special teams, Bracey recovered a punt that was blocked by Georgia Tech but lost a yard attempting to advance the ball before fumbling the ball away to the Yellow Jackets.

On the season, Bracey now has 1 tackle.

As this was Bracey’s fifth game played during the season, he is no longer eligible to redshirt.

Xavier Brown (Running Back)

After a few lean weeks, Brown saw a nice increase to his workload in Atlanta.

Brown led all players not named Brennan Armstrong in carries with 12. He also rushed for a second best 45 yards (3.75 yards per carry) and a second best long rush of 18 yards.

Brown also caught 4 passes for 8 yards (2.00 yards per catch) on 5 targets. Brown’s long reception on the night was for 8 yards.

On the season, Brown now has 39 carries for 180 yards (4.62 yards per carry) with a long rush of 38 yards. He’s now caught 6 passes for 16 yards (2.67 yards per catch) with a long reception of 8 yards.

Trey McDonald (Linebacker)

After receiving positive marks in the press from Coach Elliott leading up to this game, McDonald made his UVA debut against Georgia Tech.

Playing on special teams, McDonald did not record any stats in the game.

Sean Wilson (Wide Receiver)

Wilson continued to see his playing time increase. He played on both offense and special teams against Georgia Tech.

In the passing game, Wilson did not make a catch but he did receive 1 target.

On the season, Wilson now has 1 target and 1 tackle.

This was Wilson’s fourth game played on the season. He cannot qualify for a redshirt in 2022 if he plays in another game this season.
