It was essentially business as usual for the Hoos last Friday night at Syracuse.

The Hoos lost a road football game.

A Robert Anae offense bogged down in the second half.

And three true freshmen saw action in the game.

There was a little variety, however, as those three true freshmen did include two players making their debut on the field for the Hoos.

Will Bettridge (Kicker)

The hyped kicking prospect out of Florida relieved UVA starting kicker Brendan Farrell after Farrell missed two long field goal attempts on UVA’s first two drives of the game.

Bettridge would attempt no field goals during the game. He did make 2 of 3 extra points. He second extra point attempt was blocked by Syracuse.

This was Bettridge’s UVA debut.

Xavier Brown (Running Back)

After shining against Old Dominion, it was a quiet night for Brown against Syracuse as Perris Jones was the man on the evening.

Brown received just 1 carry against the Orange for 1 yard. He was not targeted in the passing game.

On the season, Brown now has 18 carries for 123 yards (6.83 yards per carry) with a long rush of 38 yards. He’s also caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0 yards per catch) with a long catch of 7 yards.

This was Brown’s fourth game played on the season. Playing in one more game will remove his chance for a redshirt this season.

Sean Wilson (Wide Receiver)

Wilson made his UVA debut on special teams against Syracuse. He served as an upman on the kick return team.

Wilson recorded no stats in the game.
