I tried to forget the Duke game and what happened last Saturday night in Durham.

No such luck, unfortunately.

The coaching staff was consistent in that they again played just three true freshman in the contest. And for the second week in a row, it was the same trio.

Will Bettridge (Kicker)

As Coach Elliott indicated during the lead up to the Duke game, Bettridge handled the place kicking duties for the Hoos in Durham. It was a clean night for the freshman from Florida as he was 1 for 1 on field goal attempts and 2 for 2 on extra point attempts.

Bettridge is 1 for 1 (34 yards) on field goal attempts this season. He is 4 for 5 on extra points with the one miss a blocked PAT against Syracuse.

Xavier Brown (Running Back)

Since breaking out against Old Dominion, Brown’s opportunities have become scarce.

Against Duke, Brown received 5 carries for 5 yards. His long rush was for 5 yards. He did not make any catches in the passing game.

Brown also played on special teams against the Blue Devils.

On the season, Brown now has 23 carries for 128 yards (5.57 yards per carry) with a long rush of 38 yards. He’s also caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0 yards per catch) with a long catch of 7 yards.

As this was Brown’s fifth game played this season, he no longer qualifies for a redshirt for the 2022 season.

Sean Wilson (Wide Receiver)

Wilson continued his new role on special teams for the Hoos. He also saw his first action from scrimmage as a wide receiver.

Wilson has yet to record any stats for the season.
