It’s time for our weekly look around the baseball landscape with the Hoos and the rest of the ACC.

As usual, we’ll take a look at how UVA stacks up in the latest baseball polls. We’ll review the results from the past weekend of action in the ACC. And we’ll check out my latest ACC power rankings.

Because the midweek schedules vary between Tuesday and Wednesday for teams, the power rankings will be based on play through the prior weekend.

Hoos In The Polls

It was a successful week on the diamond for UVA, winning at George Washington and taking 2 of 3 at Georgia Tech. The Hoos likely need to do more work in order to return to the polls. Let’s take a look to see if those wins moved the needle.

ACC Weekend Scoreboard

With conference play in full swing, how did league teams do this past weekend?

Boston College (1-2): BC’s slide down the standings continue. After winning the opener at Virginia Tech, the Eagles dropped a pair of one run games to close out the series.

Clemson (2-1): Clemson went to NC State and won their third ACC series in a row. The Tigers are unquestionably hot right now.

Duke (0-3): Game one at Miami was only a two run loss. But the rest of the series was not particularly close. Duke has dropped three series in a row.

Florida State (2-1): A one run loss in game one is all that kept the Noles from sweeping UNC at home. This was a nice bounce back effort after last week’s upset loss to Wake Forest.

Georgia Tech (1-2): The Yellow Jackets hung on to win the series opener against UVA but were then outplayed by the Hoos the remainder of the weekend.

Louisville (2-1): Louisville should have swept Wake Forest at home. But they’ll happily take a series win after a 1-1 draw at Notre Dame the previous weekend.

Miami (3-0): Miami didn’t have to break much of a sweat to sweep Duke at home. The Hurricanes have won four ACC games in a row.

NC State (1-2): Back to reality for the Wolfpack. After sweeping UNC the prior weekend, NC State was on the losing end of a home series against Clemson.

North Carolina (1-2): UNC was looking to turn things around after last weekend’s upset sweep by NC State. Instead, the Heels have dropped two ACC series in a row after losing the series at FSU.

Notre Dame (2-1): The Irish kept pace with Louisville by going to Pitt and winning a series. Besides a draw with the Cardinals last weekend, the Irish have won the rest of their ACC series this year.

Pitt (1-2): The bloom may be off the Pitt rose. The Panthers have dropped two series in a row, albeit to two of the better teams in the league in Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. The bad news for Pitt is that both of those series were at home.

Virginia (2-1): Break up the Hoos! UVA went to Georgia Tech and took two of three from the Yellow Jackets to claim their first conference series win of the season.

Virginia Tech (2-1): The Hokies took two of three from Boston College. But both wins were only one run victories. Still, VT has won two ACC series in a row.

Wake Forest (1-2): Wake was unable to spring a second road upset in a row. But avoiding the sweep at Louisville may have been a moral victory for the Deacs.
