It’s time for our weekly look around the baseball landscape with the Hoos and the rest of the ACC.

As usual, we’ll take a look at how UVA stacks up in the latest baseball polls. We’ll review the results from the past weekend of action in the ACC. And we’ll check out my latest ACC power rankings.

Because the midweek schedules vary between Tuesday and Wednesday for teams, the power rankings will be based on play through the prior weekend.

Hoos In The Polls

After losing at Liberty and then two of three against Miami, the Hoos did not give voters a reason to return them to the polls.

ACC Weekend Scoreboard

With conference play in full swing, how did league teams do this past weekend?

Boston College (0-3): BC’s slide from league darling continues as the Eagles were swept by Clemson at home. Game 2 of the series was an oddity as Clemson beat BC by 6 runs in 10 innings.

Clemson (3-0): The Tigers went to BC and picked up a sweep. The Tigers have won 2 ACC series in a row.

Duke (1-2): Despite losing 2 of 3 at home against Georgia Tech, the Blue Devils kept the losses close. Each of those losses were by 3 runs.

Florida State (1-2): In the upset of the weekend, Florida State lost a home series to Wake. FSU lost two games by a total of 3 runs.

Georgia Tech (2-1): Georgia Tech wanted a sweep in Durham but had to settle for winning 2 of 3. They’d probably like larger margins of victory too (3 runs each win), but a win is a win.

Louisville (1-1): The weekend’s biggest showdown, Louisville at Notre Dame, came out a draw. Louisville won the opener on Friday and then the Irish tied it up on Saturday. But the Sunday rubber match was canceled due to weather. We’ll have to play the what if game on this one.

Miami (2-1): Clutch hitting at the end of Sunday’s rubber match at UVA gave the Hurricanes a series road win against a desperate UVA squad.

NC State (3-0): Who had the Pack going to Chapel Hill and sweeping UNC? This may be the most surprising result of the season to date.

North Carolina (0-3): Yikes! You never want to be swept by your rival. But when you’re a Top 25 team and your rival is in the conference cellar, it’s not a good look.

Notre Dame (1-1): The Irish had a chance to make a statement on the national stage, but Mother Nature ruined that when the Louisville series rubber match was canceled.

Pitt (0-3): The Panthers hosted the slumping Hokies and found themselves the victim of a sweep. Pitt lost each game by 4 runs and now finds themselves decidedly in the middle of the ACC pack.

Virginia (1-2): Another ACC series, another 1-2 record for the Hoos. UVA won the Saturday game for a change against Miami. The Hoos had their chances in the Sunday game that they typically win, but a lack of clutch hitting prevented the series win over Miami.

Virginia Tech (3-0): The Hokies broke out of a mini slump by going to Pitt and getting a sweep. VT just might have some staying power in the league this season.

Wake Forest (2-1): What a strange weekend in the ACC. NC State sweeping UNC can be explained by the rivalry angle, but Wake going to FSU and taking 2 of 3 against FSU was way off the radar.
