The writer for The Athletic who covers Arizona State let this drop this morning on Twitter:

Arizona State was supposed to play Baylor but dropped out of their event at Mohegan Sun when they had health concerns related to Baylor. Virginia was supposed to play Florida, but the Gators had to drop when one of their personnel tested positive.

Could Arizona State be Virginia’s Friday opponent?

This would be a rematch from last season when these two teams met in this very same venue, and Casey Morsell led the Cavaliers to a win with his career-high 19 point performance. It was a 48-45 thriller where Virginia took a big lead in the first half, lost it in the second, then came back to close out the game in the last few minutes.

The Sun Devils are #18 in the AP poll and have a talented group with two 5* freshmen joining senior backcourt Remy Martin (Kihei Clark’s friend) and Alonzo Verge. Taeshon Cherry and Jaelen House also return from the team that played the Cavaliers last year. The two freshmen, Josh Christopher and Marcus Bagley will have a chance to work into the rotation.

Arizona State has a lot of scorers and a strong backcourt and wing, but they will be searching for answers in the post. With Virginia bringing Jay Huff and Sam Hauser to the battle, that will be an area to watch. Virginia’s wings will have to be ready for the Sun Devil attack.

We will keep an eye on this story and update you when we can.
